IUSM-SB Headlines

DID YOU KNOW? The IUSM-SB campus is now a four-year medical education program. Students may complete all required courses and clinical experiences right here in South Bend. For more information, please contact Stacey Jackson at 574-631-1870 or sajacks@iupui.edu.

IUSM-SB is proud to announce its partnership in a new alliance between the five largest South Bend based medical providers. The Medical Mile is a concept supported by Memorial Hospital South Bend, The South Bend Clinic, the South Bend Medical Foundation, Madison Center and Indiana University School of Medicine-South Bend. All five medical entities have agreed to work with the City of South Bend to attract the best and brightest medical talent and build awareness for the extensive medical services available in the city.

Harper Hall -- South Bend, Indiana

Rendering by BSA Design

The first shovel of earth has been overturned to make way for Harper Hall, a new building that will stand, symbolically and physically, at the crossroads of IUSM-SB and the University of Notre Dame. Harper Hall will house the Mike and Josie Harper Cancer Research Institute, a center for joint cancer research and expanded medical school activities. IU and Notre Dame researchers will focus their efforts on cancer biology, with an emphasis on genomics and proteomics.

The $20 million construction project has been funded through a combination of public and private funds. South Bend native Charles M. "Mike" Harper, retired chairman and CEO of ConAgra and RJR Nabisco and his family, donated $10 million to Notre Dame in memory of his late wife, Josie, who died of cancer in 1999. The State of Indiana matched his gift. Occupancy is expected in academic year 2010-2011.
