It doesn't seem that long ago that we were sitting in Dr. Richard Powell's Introduction to Medicine class or treating our first patients during clinical rotations. Yet somehow, this May marks the 30th anniversary of our graduation from medical school. By now, you should have received information about 2008 Reunion Weekend. I hope to see you there!
This milestone also marks a great opportunity to reinvigorate our class scholarship campaign. As you know, the Class of 1978 Richard C. Powell Scholarship was established to celebrate our 25th reunion and honor a faculty member who touched us all. The scholarship is already making a difference at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Second-year student Roger Morse is receiving $3,500 this academic year. (Click here to learn more about the 2007-08 scholarship recipient.)
Still, I know the Class of 1978 can do more. To date, we have raised more than $64,000. While that's a great start, it falls short of our minimum goal of $100,000.
Because our scholarship is endowed, the amount distributed annually will increase as the fund grows. That additional support is certainly needed. Tuition at the School of Medicine has surpassed $25,000 a year for Indiana residents and $40,000 for non-residents.
If you have already contributed to our class scholarship, please consider doing so again. If you haven't, now is a perfect time to make a difference.
Mark your calendars, plan to join us for our 30th reunion May 16-17, and register at www.alumni.iupui.edu/medicine/reunions if you have not done so already.
Sincerely,
David Crabb
