Student says Class of 1978 Scholarship provides motivation
As the 2007-2008 recipient of the Class of 1978 Richard C. Powell Scholarship, Roger Morse received $3,500 in tuition support this academic year. But for Roger, a second-year student at the Indiana University School of Medicine, the scholarship provides much more than just financial assistance. It also provides motivation.
"Having a scholarship has been a driving force in helping me to succeed and get the most out of my medical school classes," Morse says. "It is evidence that my hard work is paying off and motivates me to keep pushing myself. I'm very grateful to the Class of 1978."
Roger grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He completed his undergraduate work at Ball State University and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis before beginning medical school.
He would eventually like to go into Emergency Medicine and hopes to remain at the Indiana University School of Medicine for his residency. In the future, he would like to practice medicine in Fort Wayne or Indianapolis.
When Roger has spare time, he likes to spend it with his wife, Melissa, who is an Indianapolis Public Schools High School teacher. And when he can, he likes to play with his dogs and squeeze in a round or two of golf.
"I appreciate that members of the Class of 1978 have taken it upon themselves to help those who have come after them at the School of Medicine," Morse says. " Receiving this scholarship has helped me realize that it is my responsibility to try to make a difference in the lives and education of other students in the future."
